The Chesapeake Bay is teaming with Rockfish, and do you know what is the Maryland State Fish? It is actually a Striped Bass, aka the Chesapeake Bay Rockfish. These are a very tasty, nutritious and versatile fish that are loads of fun to catch. Many Chesapeake Bay charter fisherman really enjoy hooking into one of these fish which typically run from a couple of pounds up to the record 78 pounds. The 2012 "Trophy Striper" season (Maryland Rockfish) will start mid-April and runs through mid May. During this time charter boat fishermen are allowed one "Trophy Striper" (Maryland Rockfish) per person of twenty eight inches or bigger. After the "Trophy Striper" season (Maryland Rockfish) ends the Summer "Trophy Striper" season (Maryland Rockfish) begins. This runs from mid May to December. During the Summer "Trophy Striper" season (Maryland Rockfish) charter boat fishermen are allowed two Striped Bass (Maryland Rockfish) per person and each fish must be over eighteen inches in length.
